While the day dawned cold and rainy, the weather did little to dampen the Bruriah Lightning spirit. After a previous successful two games, each with the invoked mercy rule, the Lightning faced the undefeated SAR Sting at their own home field at Warinanco Park. The game began at a slower tempo, with SAR gaining a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Gila Alter (‘18) kept the Sting on their toes as she pitched strike after strike. The Lightning had outstanding defense but when the time came, their offense did not disappoint. Talya Markowitz (‘18) and Ilana Markowitz (‘17) led the lineup with an single RBI and a three-RBI triple, respectively, and were followed by great performances from Serah Shohet (‘20) and Serena Wiederkehr (‘18), each hitting stunning RBIs to contribute to Bruriah’s lead. When SAR tried to reclaim their lost points at the top of the sixth and seventh inning, Bruriah’s talent on the infield with Rina Finkelstein (‘18), Rivki Hook (‘18), Ilana Markowitz (‘17) and Adina Pinsker (‘19) kept them at bay. With the cheering from the Lightning in their ears, the Sting were forced to suffer their first lost of the season, as the Lightning took the game 6-1. As they move up in the ranks, Bruriah hopes to defeat Kushner when the Cobras come to play in Elizabeth for the sixth game of the season.
