RTMA Launches Summer STEM Programs

In a move already heating up the phone lines and email servers with a rush of registrations, the Rav Teitz Mesivta Academy announced last week the launch of two innovative summer STEM programs.

Design, Code, Build! is the slogan for the sessions, both expertly led by RTMA Science Department Head Mrs. Robyn Brewer, who is responsible for the outstanding retrofit of the new JEC STEM labs with the latest in cutting-edge technology and machinery. Her creativity, innovative spirit and willingness to support students as they broadly explore and push themselves beyond what they ever thought was possible is legendary within the school. Students regularly clamor to spend their spare time, and even vacation, in the labs, fondly dubbed Area 251.

The first session, during which students will build their own 3D printers from scratch, will run from June 19 – June 23, and is open to all current RTMA high school students. 3D printers are employed frequently by students and when a computer part broke recently, students amazingly used them to print replacement parts.

The second summer session, during which students will engineer their very own robot cars, runs from August 21- August 25, and is open to all rising eighth grade boys (current seventh grade) from all yeshivot in the broader area. The hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and the tuition fee of $600 includes all materials, lunch, program swag, a program certificate of completion and a special closing activity. Students will get to take home their completed robot cars at the conclusion of the session. Limited scholarships are available.
