Nutrition is one of the many subject matters covered in anatomy and health class at RKYHS. To bring the lessons to life, the class took a field trip to the Livingston ShopRite for a sit down with the in-house dietitian followed by a supermarket scavenger hunt. The wide ranging discussion included the many career opportunities for certified dietitians along with how to make healthy lifestyle choices. The dietician answered many of the students’ questions that came up in their classes prior to the visit.
For the scavenger hunt, students had to track down specific food preservatives that lurk in our foods and find healthy alternatives. One student described this as a crash course in healthy shopping. The teams found almost all of the 35 items in the scavenger hunt. As a follow up, they are going to prepare healthy meals with items that were purchased at the store.
