AMIT has come to the rescue of bewildered husbands and children seeking creative ideas for pampering their beloved wives and moms on the morning of Mother’s Day. The Hindy Weinstock Geula Chapter of AMIT is providing a perfect solution to this yearly dilemma. On Sunday morning, May 14, dads and children of driving age can pick up a lovely, upscale breakfast package from seven locations throughout Teaneck. For those unable to pick up, delivery is available.
According to Rachel Mandelbaum, co-chair of the project with Joy Goldsmith, the package will include “a delectable parfait, a gourmet sandwich and a creative muffin. No bagels and lox for Mom!” The cost of the delicious breakfast, to be prepared by Five Star Caterers, is $36. A gold sponsorship at $72 and a platinum sponsorship at $118 are also being offered. The pick-up centers are Congregations Beth Aaron, Beth Abraham, B’nai Yeshurun, Keter Torah and Rinat Yisrael, as well as the Young Israel of Teaneck and the Teaneck apartments.
The Hindy Weinstock Geula Chapter has chosen to sponsor this project as part of its ongoing effort to revitalize the Teaneck Chapter of AMIT. Their goal is to engage women of all ages in ways that are conducive to their personal and professional lifestyles. The evening meetings of prior years are not realistic for women’s busy schedules. Hence, projects that are easily accessible and provide a meaningful service are key. In keeping with the goal of integrating younger women into the chapter, a pick-up location was designated in the Teaneck apartments, a complex that houses many young couples.
Genene Kaye, a Teaneck resident who serves as the senior director of the tri-state region of AMIT explained, “we are modeling this ‘Breakfast in Bed’ project after a similar project piloted in South Florida which was very successful. We hope that it will serve as the first of many local projects that will help us re-launch the efforts of the Hindy Weinstock Geula Chapter of Teaneck.”
“The AMIT network in Israel is growing exponentially as new cities throughout Israel are adopting AMIT as their sole educational network,” Kaye continued. “AMIT currently serves over 34,000 youngsters in 110 pre-school through post-high school programs, including vocational and junior college programs. By coming into cities throughout Israel, three-quarters of which are on the periphery of the country in economic and social development, we are leveling the playing field for our students so that they will have equal opportunities to excel and reach their maximum potential.”
Founded in 1925 as American Mizrachi Women, AMIT has grown exponentially and to date has served over 100,000 young people through its ever-expanding educational programs. In 1981, AMIT was designated by the government of Israel to serve as the official Reshet (network) for religious secondary technological education. This landmark event set the stage for a major expansion of AMIT’s educational facilities, which continues to this day, as municipalities with faltering religious technological high schools are taken over by AMIT and dramatically improved. AMIT students reflect all of Israel: religious and secular, Ashkenazi and Sephardi, sabra and immigrant. All students are welcome into AMIT’s educational environment, which emphasizes, in addition to state-of-the-art educational excellence, tolerance, understanding and the performance of mitzvot.
