Rapids Wash Away the Cougars in Girls Hockey

Coming off a very disappointing loss earlier in the week, 7-2 to the Kushner Cobras, the Ma’ayanot Rapids looked to bounce back, on senior night, against the undefeated 5-0-1, Frisch Cougars. Although they played Kushner without their star offensive weapon, Rebecca Malech, they knew that wasn’t the reason for the defeat. They knew they did not play as well as they would have liked and that they needed to regain focus and momentum for this crucial game against the Frisch Cougars. Ma’ayanot got off to a great start early, when Jolie Levart scored a beautiful goal, a few minutes into the competition. It was a very intense back and forth hockey game until Ma’ayanot pulled away in the final minutes of regulation, thanks to scoring by Jolie Levart and Rebecca Malech. It wasn’t just the offense that led Ma’ayanot past the Cougars— it was also their defense and goalkeeping. Michal Rosenfeld, senior Ma’ayanot defenseman, played amazing all-around hockey keeping the ball away from junior goalie, Kayla Kalb. Kayla Kalb had an amazing game herself, blocking nearly everything that came her way. The three stars of the game were Rebecca Malech, Jolie Levart, and Kayla Kalb. Malech had a goal and two assists, Jolie had two goals, and Kayla Kalb stopped 17 out of 18 shots.

After the well deserved win, Sol Emunah Richter, Ma’ayanot offenseman, said the following about the game, “It was a nice bounce back win and we have to keep this going into the playoffs.”

The Ma’ayanot Rapids know that it’s going to be a hard road to the ship, but they are definitely capable of thriving past each round. Ma’ayanot improved to 4-3 on the season going into the Sunday showcase against the HAFTR Hawks.
