Middle Schoool students kicked off the Moadim L’STEAMcha program with Rosh Hashanah. Moadim L’STEAMcha is an interdisciplinary exploration of the chagim with experiential learning, tying the Jewish holidays with science, technology, engineering, art and math projects. Students learned about the Tehillim of “L’David Hashem” and explored whyit is recited from Elul until Shemini Atzeret and how it connects to teshuva. Through the lesson, teachers guided students towards understanding the light of Hashem, how we can follow it, and its significance in their lives. They also discussed how to maintain closeness to Hashem even during hard times. Students learned the perek of Tehillim and then reviewed it as a class.
Following the lesson and discussion, students took part in a science lesson and a STEAM activity. Continuing the concept of light, they learned about phosphors and how glow in the dark toys work. They then made glow-in-the-dark slime to symbolize Hashem’s light, even during dark times.
