After many years, girls junior hockey is back! Bergen county has become a hotbed for hockey. Whether it is high school hockey, middle school hockey or youth hockey, there are a plethora of options for children of all ages to play hockey. However, the options for girls have historically been limited. This is about to change. Run by Aharon Goldwasser and Gabi Secemski, the Ma’ayanot Girls Floor Hockey League (MGFHL) will begin running in September. The league is designed to provide girls in grades three through eight with an opportunity to play recreational hockey and to develop skills that may help them once they reach high school. The program will consist of two divisions including a junior varsity division for girls in grades three through five and a varsity division for girls in grades six through eight. There will be an instructional division for girls in first and second grade as well. The program will run on Sunday mornings, beginning in the fall, in the Ma’ayanot gym. The girls will play a seven or eight game regular season and will have playoffs as well.
Aharon Goldwasser has been involved in the yeshiva hockey world for over 10 years, as both an assistant coach and a head coach. Aharon is currently the head coach of the Ma’ayanot Girls hockey team. Gabi Secemski has been involved in yeshiva sports dating back to his high school days as a player on multiple school teams.
