In the upcoming Board of Education election, Teaneck residents have a critical choice to make: who will best advocate for our children and ensure a brighter future for our schools? I am the right candidate for this important responsibility. My name is Jennifer Levy, and I am running for the Board of Education on a platform of Kids, Community and Transparency. I bring a unique blend of experience, dedication and a proven track record of success in education and law, which will enable me to serve all families and support all students in Teaneck effectively.
My Background and Commitment to Education
For over 20 years, I have dedicated my life to serving others, first as an educator and now as an attorney. My journey in education includes teaching at prestigious institutions like Bergen County Academies and New Milford High School and leading a high-performing Jewish day school as a general studies principal. My experience encompasses curriculum development, implementation of Gifted & Talented and Response to Intervention programs, and securing significant grants to enhance educational opportunities. I hold multiple master’s degrees in education, including Administration & Supervision, and Gifted Education, as well as principal and supervisor certifications. I am also an award-winning educator and speaker, recognized by organizations like the Avi Chai Foundation and the Gilder Lehrman Institute. Currently, I am an attorney providing me with a unique perspective on the legal complexities surrounding education. This diverse background has equipped me with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the challenges facing Teaneck schools and advocate effectively for our students.
Addressing the Needs of All Students
I am deeply committed to ensuring that every student in Teaneck receives the support they deserve. This includes:
Strengthening early literacy and numeracy skills to empower students to reach their full potential.
Improving student-to-teacher ratios to provide more personalized attention and create a more inclusive learning environment.
Ensuring accessible education for all students, including those with special needs, by providing the necessary support and resources.
Supporting extracurricular activities by maintaining and upgrading equipment, providing safety gear and improving fields.
Collaborating with parents and educators to ensure that decisions are made with the best interests of students in mind.
A Focus on Transparency And Accountability
As a parent of a child who has experienced the strengths and challenges of the Teaneck school district firsthand, I understand the need for greater transparency and accountability. I am committed to:
Promoting transparency in fund allocation, ensuring that resources are used effectively and efficiently to benefit all students.
Adhering to the Open Public Meetings Act (Sunshine Law) to ensure that decisions are made in an open and accessible manner.
Addressing issues of harassment, intimidation, and bullying (HIB) promptly and effectively, with clear communication to parents and the community.
Reaching All Families and Building a United Community
A strong school district requires a united community. I am committed to reaching out to all families, regardless of their background, to listen to their concerns and work together to find solutions.
My diverse upbringing, attending both public and private schools, coupled with my experience working with students from various backgrounds, has given me a deep understanding of the needs of a diverse community. I am eager to engage with all stakeholders, fostering constructive dialogue, and building bridges to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.
Investing in Teaneck’s Future
I am passionate about public education and believe that Teaneck has the potential to be a model school district. By working together, with transparency and accountability as our guiding principles, we can create a brighter future for all our children. I ask for your vote on Column 1, Nov. 5. Let’s build a better Teaneck, together.
