I am baffled that far left politicians claim that Proposal 1 (Prop 1) – an amendment to the NYS Constitution – is required to protect a women’s right to choose in New York.
Prop 1 doesn’t even mention abortion. Abortion was legalized in New York in 1970 and is under no threat of repeal. In fact, it was legalized three years before Roe – and survived 60 years of a Republican State Senate and 12 years of a Republican governor. So all the handwringing that abortion could be abolished is just fear mongering.
However, Prop 1 has been called a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” for good reason. Poorly drafted with vague language, Prop 1 expands the categories of people protected from discrimination and includes among other categories, age and gender.
Prop 1 will grant minors the same rights as adults because it calls for no discrimination based on age. Right now, schools must notify parents to administer aspirin to a child. Prop 1 will eliminate the need for permission for an aspirin – and any other intervention.
Prop 1 will give biological males a constitutional right to compete in girls’ athletics. Once that right is granted, it will be impossible to reverse it.
Far left progressive politicians pontificate about women’s rights. Yet all of this is acceptable. Makes you wonder why…
Stop the faux outrage about women’s rights and be honest.
Flip the ballot and vote No on Prop 1.
