This past Monday, BPY celebrated Election Day. As students entered the building dressed in red, white and blue, they were met by the two presidential candidates who eagerly awaited the students’ votes. The building was decorated in red, white and blue and the students dressed in their most patriotic apparel. BPY held a school-wide mock election for president.

Each grade learned about the election process in an age appropriate way. Students focused on the role of the different offices, the process required to run for a position as well as the important role of the voters. Teachers used primary sources, multimedia presentations and children’s literature to help teach about elections. As a culmination, each grade in the elementary school participated in a school-wide vote for president. Students can’t wait to see how their results compare to the nation’s.

In middle school, BPY Election Day was a momentous occasion as students elected their new Student Council. After a week of positive campaigning, the students watched a presentation of campaign videos for all of the candidates followed by an electronic vote. Congratulations to all of the candidates for their creative slogans, clean campaigns and the respect that they showed to their fellow candidates.
