Rabbi Dr. Meir Soloveichik to Speak on ‘Rembrandt and the Rabbis’ at YIFL

The Young Israel of Fort Lee, collaborating once again with Yeshiva University, is offering yet another amazing shiur this summer, thanks to the sponsorship of Jed Katz. On August 22, Rabbi Dr. Meir Soloveichik will be discussing “Rembrandt and the Rabbis: What the Artist Teaches Us About Blessing Our Children on Erev Yom Kippur.” The intriguing title is enough to pique interest, but even more of a motivation to attend the shiur is who will be giving it.

Rabbi Dr. Meir Yaakov Soloveichik has a B.A. from Yeshiva College, semicha from Yeshiva University’s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary and a Phd in religion from Princeton University. Currently he is the 10th minister (rabbi) of the historic Spanish Portuguese Synagogue, Congregation Shearith Israel, in New York, and serves as the director of the Zahava and Moshael Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought at Yeshiva University. He has written many articles in multiple publications including the Wall Street Journal, Commentary, First Things, Azure, Tradition and The Torah u-Madda Journal. He has given enthralling, enlightening and entertaining speeches to both Jewish and non-Jewish audiences throughout the United States, Europe and Israel on multiple subjects, including Jewish theology, bioethics, wartime ethics, history and Jewish-Christian relations. He has also served as moderator for the Strauss Center’s series “Great Conversations,” which has featured discussions with important thinkers such as Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks and Alan Dershowitz.

Join Rabbi Dr. Meir Soloveichik and the Young Israel of Fort Lee on Tuesday, August 22, at 7:30 p.m. for Mincha followed by the shiur.
