The RKYHS SEED (Students Education Enrichment and Development) speaker program brings in a wide range of speakers to offer students differing perspectives to provide insight and broaden their minds and ideas. For their most recent SEED speaker, RKYHS students heard from Professor David Schizer, co-chair of Columbia University’s task force on antisemitism as well as dean emeritus and Harvey R. Miller professor of Law and Economics at Columbia Law School. In today’s unprecedented climate of increased antisemitism, Schizer brought a unique perspective on campus antisemitism, as well as legal responses to the challenge. Schizer provided an insider’s view of what students have heard about in the news regarding antisemitism on campus as he discussed free speech rights, free speech responsibilities and what is considered harassment. He spoke of the need to encourage dialogue and respectful debate with those who share a different opinion, and imparted to the students to use their talents and abilities to make a case for what’s right and wrong in the world.
