The Ramaz seventh graders truly took advantage of New York City as their classroom when they went on a trip to the Metropolitan Opera! This trip was an incredible supplement to their unit on the history of opera. In preparation for the Met’s production, Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” conducted by Nimrod David Preffer of Tel Aviv, the students read the story in class and even acted it out with each other. The students researched key topics, such as opera vocabulary terms and the life and contributions of Mozart. By the time they saw this performance, they knew a great deal about “The Magic Flute” and many songs in it. They loved the performance, with its unmatched talent and spectacular production value. Now that they have seen the opera live, they will work on creating their own imaginary operas, combining their creativity and knowledge to write their desired plots and cast which characters would sing which voice parts.
