This week, the lower elementary students completed their exploration of the world’s oceans. The students expressed their creativity by drawing ocean animals, and as part of their studies, they labeled their biome drawings in Hebrew. Science and other general studies are taught within the context of the kodesh curriculum, with a dedicated team of full-time kodesh and general studies teachers collaborating regularly.
Next, the students shifted their focus to mountains. They engaged in a hands-on, sensory learning experience by constructing mountains out of clay, labeling key features such as the base, slope, peaks and summit. Additionally, they began reading and writing about mountains. In the upcoming weeks, they will study the animals that live in these majestic landforms.
Meanwhile, the middle school students continued their participation in the “Names, Not Numbers©” project. This week, they had the privilege of interviewing Mrs. Ray Kaner, a Holocaust survivor. The students spent the day learning about Mrs. Kaner’s life in Lodz and her survival during the Holocaust. They also gained hands-on experience with documentary filmmaking, using professional cameras to record interviews and testimonies. Following the filming, the students participated in a discussion with Rabbi Jonathan Rietti on the concept of emunah, reflecting on the powerful and meaningful experience.
