JKHA’s fourth grade has been learning about different kinds of circuits and defining conductors and insulators. Students showed much creativity on their culminating menorah project where they designed, constructed and wired their own menorahs, including a switch. They held a special ceremony during Chanukah to “light” the menorahs with Lower School. The candle lighting was enhanced by a Chanukah performance from the Lower School choir.
Early Childhood had the opportunity to experience a hands-on activity to enhance their understanding of the miracle of the oil which lasted eight days. With Rabbi Rosenblum from Living Legacy, the children extracted oil from olives by actually using a hand press. They learned about a centrifuge and how it purifies and distills the different components of the juice which comes from the olive. The children were able to explore the same special shemen used in the mikdash.
Second graders organized a toy drive to benefit children with cancer through Chai Lifeline and have been collecting unwrapped toys from the school community. The toys were picked up this week after being packed up by the second graders. Yashar koach to the students on this big mitzvah!
Early Childhood and Lower School gathered in the Epstein-Stein Auditorium for a school-wide Super Mega Dreidel tournament this week. The champions from the competitions held in each class joined together on the auditorium stage for this final tournament.
It was teachers vs students on this last day of Chanukah, as the 8th graders took on their teachers in separate boys and girls basketball games. To close out Chanukah, Middle School concluded their Chidon Yisrael competition. Students originally competed in class to answer Israel-focused trivia. Two student winners from each class moved on to compete in a division-wide oral competition at the end of the day today to crown the Chidon Yisrael champion.
