HIR-The Bayit to Screen New Holocaust Film ‘AFTER: Poetry Destroys Silence’

Join the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale-The Bayit for a special screening of “AFTER: Poetry Destroys Silence” on Motzei Shabbat, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m. to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day. HIR-The Bayit is located at 3700 Henry Hudson Pkwy, Bronx.

“Holocaust memory is a central value in our HIR community. ‘AFTER: Poetry Destroys Silence’ offers an opportunity to engage Holocaust memory in new and different ways,” said Rabbi Steven Exler, senior rabbi at The Bayit.

The film is not about the devastation of the Shoah; rather, it shows the effects of living with the knowledge of the evil human beings can perpetrate upon each other and of living with trauma across generations. “AFTER” is ultimately about human resilience, the hope, power and courage to forge new lives, and the value of remembering in a unique way, giving insight and wisdom to help create a better future.

Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion and Q&A moderated by Rabbi Exler with producer and poet Janet R. Kirchheimer, and poet and actor Géza Röhrig.

Cost is $15 per person, which includes the film and light refreshments. Preregistration is requested. The film is suitable for adults and teens, age 16 and up. For tickets and sponsorship opportunities, visit www.thebayit.org/film.

The program is co-sponsored by The Kehilah of Riverdale and the Riverdale Y. For more information about “AFTER: Poetry Destroys Silence” visit www.after.film.
