Lecture on Jewish-Muslim Relations Draws Enthusiastic Response

(Courtesy of Chabad of Hackensack) Chabad of Hackensack recently hosted an enlightening lecture, “Jews and Muslims: A Jewish Perspective on Our Shared Rich History and Mutual Future,” featuring Rabbi Mendy Chitrik, chairman of the Alliance of Rabbis in the Islamic States. The event captivated attendees with its fascinating insights and historical revelations.

Rabbi Chitrik shared many little known facts and stories that sparked thought-provoking discussions. Highlights from the lecture included:

The establishment of the first print house in the Islamic world by two Jewish brothers.

The surprising fact that close to 200,000 Jews currently live in Muslim majority countries, with nearly half identifying as Ashkenazi.

That Iran boasts over 80 functioning synagogues as well as an overnight day camp for children.

A revelation that Azerbaijan, not Iran, is home to the largest Jewish community in the Muslim world.
