Cong. Rinat Yisrael Adult Education to Present Rabbi Binyamin Zimmerman as Scholar-in-Residence

Rabbi Binyamin Zimmerman, chief educator at Zomet Institute, will be the scholar-in-residence at Cong. Rinat Yisrael on October 20-22. The program will begin with a Friday Night Oneg at 8:45 p.m., entitled “Bereishit and Its Lessons for Building Society.” There will be a Drasha given on Shabbat on “Noach and Avraham: Two Eternal Messages, One That Persevered.” Rabbi Zimmerman will speak again before mincha on Shabbat afternoon, at 4:45 p.m., on “Shabbat in the Modern Age,” discussing Shabbat elevators, wheelchairs, computers and medical and security needs in the 21st century. After mincha, he will give a shiur at 5:30 dealing with some of the unique halachic issues surrounding the prevalent use of sensors in modern society.

Finally, on Sunday morning at 8:45 a.m., Rabbi Zimmerman will share an audio/visual demonstration showing how Zomet modifies technological equipment to meet the medical, security and personal needs of the Jewish community.

Rabbi Binyamin Zimmerman, a seasoned educator, author and innovator, serves as the chief educator of the Zomet Institute of Halacha and Technology. He is the author of “From the Source With Spirit” series, on the topics of kashrut, Shabbat, tefilla, and Bein Adam LeChavero. His work in educating future educators, his lectures on varied topics concerning the interface between halacha and modern technology and his teacher training workshops have brought him in front of international audiences across the Jewish spectrum.
