(Courtesy of YU) Unprecedented attendance, historic fundraising success, and extraordinary student achievements defined the Yeshiva University High School for Boys (MTA) record-breaking Annual Dinner of Tribute in January at Marina Del Rey. Centered around the theme “Charting the Course: Inspiring Our Future,” the event brought together YUHS board members, YU roshei yeshiva, current and former parents, alumni, rebbeim, faculty, students and guests to celebrate the yeshiva’s remarkable accomplishments and its profound impact on the community.
This year’s dinner marked a milestone for MTA’s fundraising efforts, attracting the highest number of individual donors in its history. At the start of the evening, the campaign was slightly short of its campaign goal, but with the encouragement of Rabbi Daniel Konigsberg, principal and alumnus, the community stepped up: leading by example, YU President Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman, MTA alum, made the first pledge toward closing the gap and inspiring an outpouring of generosity. By the next day, the goal was surpassed, setting a new record for funds raised to support MTA’s unparalleled Torah and secular education.
The program also celebrated the exceptional achievements of MTA’s students. Nineteen seniors — representing more than a quarter of the graduating class — were accepted into the prestigious Yeshiva University Honors Program. The robotics team, Lionotics, continued its impressive dominance, emerging as undefeated champions in a competitive New York City tournament. These milestones highlighted MTA’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
The evening also honored members of the community whose dedication and impact have strengthened MTA’s mission. Penina and Asaf Shmuel were named Family of the Year; Jessica and Elly Rosman (’98) and Yael and Tzachi Rosman (’98) were honored as Alumni Families of the Year; and the Faculty Award was presented to Jen Friedman.
The dinner program, opened by Rabbi Shimon Schenker, menahel of MTA, emphasized how the yeshiva is charting a path for its talmidim to excel in both their academic and Judaic studies, lead with values, and contribute to the world. Rabbi Konigsberg inspired attendees with reflections on MTA’s unique ability to provide an education that prepares students to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Rabbi Berman underscored MTA’s vital role as the first step in a Yeshiva University education, connecting its students to the larger mission of YU to lead with Torah values and make a meaningful impact.
The celebration concluded with spirited dancing, uniting the entire MTA community in joy and unity and a meaningful moment of connection as attendees wrote letters of support to Israeli soldiers.
The funds raised from this year’s dinner will allow MTA to continue to “Chart the Course” for its students, empowering them with the tools, knowledge and values to inspire the future.
