Isaac (Yitzi) Markel of Teaneck was the second-fastest runner out of 250 from New Jersey in this year’s New York City Marathon. The TABC and Yeshiva University graduate placed 195th out of all runners, finishing the 26.2-mile race in two hours, 44 minutes and 18 seconds—34 minutes behind the winner. “It was incredible running with so many of my close friends and former YU teammates,” said Markel. “My family was so supportive, and seeing my close friends out there made all the difference. Running through the streets of New York City in front of thousands of screaming fans is an experience I’ll always cherish.”
Markel ran for the YU Cross Country team while he was a student, and after graduating became the assistant coach of the team. He is currently a member of the Central Park Track team.
