Chuneh Averuhm Zynger writes a beautiful history of his life as an immigrant (“I Am an Immigrant,” January 23, 2025). I take issue with his last paragraph where he states, “Leadership which blocks immigration is short-sighted, hateful and forgetful.” Is he referring to Donald Trump’s program to remove illegal immigrants from the U.S.? The Biden administration encouraged immigration from all over the planet and brought in violent gangs that rape, murder and traffic in fentanyl and other drugs. The U.S. provided housing, food, cell phones and medical care to illegal immigrants while some veterans were homeless and hard working families were struggling to make ends meet. Mr. Trump is following our Constitution to secure our borders and doing what is necessary to clean up the crime and drug overdoses in the United States.
The massive numbers of migrants are crowding out the local poor citizens in the quest for jobs and housing. The poorest Americans are suffering the most. They are the ones living in the now crime-ridden neighborhoods. They and their children are being killed by stray bullets. Their children are suffering in school with large numbers of students that don’t speak English and are getting all the attention. When some of the migrants were transported from San Antonio, Texas to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, they were rapidly relocated elsewhere. It seems that the liberals follow a policy of “bring them in” but NIMBY (not in my backyard).
Under Mr. Trump’s policy of merit-based and vetted immigration, Chuneh Zynger’s family would have been accepted on the basis of being hardworking people who wanted to provide for their family. They weren’t seeking “free stuff” or a life of crime. Chuneh Zynger is probably getting his information about Donald Trump from the same sources that reported that “Joe Biden is as sharp as a tack.”
