More than 400 prospective students and their parents had a sampling of Bruriah’s offerings at Bruriah’s recent Open House. The record-breaking crowd was welcomed by Principal Rabbi Joseph Oratz. Rabbi Chaim Marcus, dynamic leader of Congregation Israel of Springfield and teacher of Judaic studies at Bruriah delighted the guests with his wise and inspiring words. The visitors to Bruriah also heard from Tova Lejtman (’13, Teaneck) whose brainchild is the new weekly beit midrash program at Bruriah, and Elisheva Hirsch (’19, Teaneck) of the student government.
While a panel of Bruriah students led “All You Ever Wanted to Know About Bruriah” and the eighth graders saw “Tanach Comes Alive,” the state-of-the-art chemistry lab and “Read All About It English,” parents heard from Bruriah department chairs. A prospective Bruriah parent commented she “loves all the electives options” and another parent “was blown away by the Open House” and “can’t wait to join the Bruriah family in September 2018. The faculty and students were so warm and knowledgeable—I am just sad that I can’t register, too.”
The finale took place in the gym over a generous buffet featuring pastas, sushi, cookies and fruit. Prospective students and parents were excited to mingle with administration, faculty and current students and hear even more about CIJE, halacha, English, history, and foreign languages, and many others, at booths specifically for those subjects. Attendees spent considerable time at booths set up to promote the extensive and competitive sports teams, Mock Trial, debate, and Torah Bowl and the full range of programs from student life including committees and student government.
One of the young guests shared, “My friends told me they went to other open houses and Bruriah’s was the nicest run and most fun open house they went to! They enjoyed it the most!”
