In the Learning Lab for parshat Chayei Sarah, the children explored water and wells. They tried to identify with Rivkah and imagine the magnitude of her mitzvah of pouring water for Eliezer and all of his camels.
They read a book and looked at pictures that described what a well is and how camels drink from a trough. They learned that a camel can drink 30 gallons of water in 13 minutes! And Eliezer had ten camels! Imagine how much water Rivka had to draw from the well! Each child lifted and carried one gallon of water and felt how heavy that was.
Also in the Learning Lab this week, the children drew water from a well (garbage can) and poured it into the trough (water table) using a rope and a pail. It took so many buckets to fill it up! They also made a well using clay, rocks and stones and transferred water to various containers using different implements, such as medicine droppers, turkey basters and funnels.
