New Sefer Sas Anochi Offers Masterful Compilation of Brisker Chiddushim Across Shas

Highlighting: “Sas Anochi” by Rabbi Yaacov Sasson. Machon Aleh Zayis. 259 Pages. 2024.

A remarkable new sefer has arrived for those who cherish the Torah of Brisk. Sefer Sas Anochi, by Rabbi Yaacov Sasson, is a compilation of the author’s original chiddushim on various sugyot, written in the classic Brisker style. In addition to these insights, the sefer features deep analysis, discussion, and further applications of the chiddushim of the Gedolim of the Brisker dynasty.

With haskamot from Rav Hershel Schachter, Rav Yitzchak Sorotzkin and Rav Lipa Geldwerth, Sas Anochi stands out as a unique contribution to the world of Brisker Torah. Notably, it draws extensively from both branches of the Brisker mesorah—the Yerushalayim branch of the Brisker Rav, Rav Berel, Rav Dovid and Rav Meir, as well as the American branch of Rav Moshe, Rav Yosef Dov, Rav Aharon and Rav Aharon Lichtenstein. Rav Hershel Schachter praises the sefer in his haskama as “full of chiddushei Torah in the distinct style of Brisk,” while Rav Yitzchak Sorotzkin writes, “to find the truth of the matters in the path that our teachers of the House of Levi taught us.”

Covering 40 simanim on topics throughout Shas, Sas Anochi places a strong emphasis on Brachot and Moadim while also delving into topics such as issur tevel and the Sanhedrin. The sefer presents original and creative chiddushim on well-known sugyot in a way that makes them accessible even to those not deeply immersed in a particular sugya.

Rabbi Yaacov Sasson received semicha from RIETS and is the author of Shiurei HaRav on Sanhedrin, which compiles the shiurim of Rav Yosef Dov Soloveitchik on Masechet Sanhedrin.

Sas Anochi is available at your local sefarim store, at the YU Sefarim Sale and on the Machon Aleh Zayis website.
