I have read about President Trump’s plan to urge Jordan and Egypt to take in Palestinians from Gaza. Is this a good idea?
Iran is going through Iraq to enter Jordan to try to destabilize it. In the last Jordanian election, the victor was the Islamic Action Front (IAF), the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood. It won 31 out of 138 seats in the Parliament of Jordan, tripling its representation in the House of Representatives, which makes it the largest single opposition block. The IAF won only 20 seats in the previous parliament elected in 2020. As Al Jazeera wrote, it shows “their win was a popular referendum that backs their platform of support for the Palestinian group Hamas, their ideological allies, and their demand to scrap the country’s peace treaty with Israel.” As we see from the election results, Jordan is becoming more and more radicalized.
The Jordanian-Israeli border is our longest and most porous border, which is very difficult to defend against Iranian weapon smuggling and terrorists from infiltrating into Judea and Samaria in Israel. If we agree to have Jordan take in more Palestinians, won’t this just allow Gazan Palestinians and Hamas supporters to increase the threat of terrorism and weapon smuggling from the Jordanian border into Israel?
