Coming off an unexpected tie against the Kushner Cobras, the MTA JV Lions hosted the North Shore Stars in the Lion’s Den on a cold Sunday afternoon. Coming into the game, the Stars were 2-1 and the Lions were 1-1-1, both teams needing a win. The game started slowly in the first period for both teams, with goalies not seeing much action. But in the second period, the Lions struck first with a goal from Ben Friedman (‘20), his third goal of the 2017-2018 season. Both teams fought hard, each earning a few penalties, but no one else could find the back of the net for the rest of the period.
In the third period, the Stars came out strong, netting a goal just a few minutes in. Both teams had opportunities, both goalies played well, but Avraham Levi’s (‘20) stellar goalie performance really stood out. The Lions’ opportunity came with four minutes left in the third period, when they had an offensive zone face off. Off came a shot from Ben Friedman (‘20) at the point, which trickled right through the goalie’s pads. This goal was enough to give the Lions a 2-1 victory, improving their record to 2-1-1.
