It was all hands and graphing calculators on deck in Elissa Katz’s 11th grade math class at Yeshivat Frisch on Thursday, November 16. It started when Seth Silverman came up with an original statistics problem: What is the probability that the sum of consecutive dice rolls will eventually add up to exactly 1000 without going over? The rest of the students then spent a class period working individually and together to find a mathematical equation that could solve the problem, with Katz’s own son, Jonathan, coding a special computer program to address it.
