(Courtesy of Lester Senior Housing Community) The distinctive Lester Senior Housing Community in Whippany has expanded its programs for its assisted living residents with new activities to foster wellness of mind, body and soul. The programs are offered in the Weston Assisted Living Residence, one of two buildings comprising the senior living community, which provides hotel-like amenities and services amid parklike surroundings. Among the new offerings are:
Yoga for seniors, led by Tami Rager, YT. According to Rager, practicing yoga helps seniors build confidence and self-awareness, and has been shown to help manage pain. Rager also teaches a weekly Balance & Mindfulness class at Lester.
MUSIC & MEMORY℠ for residents in the community’s Memory Care Suite, in which personalized music playlists are set up on portable digital devices. Listening to musical favorites helps keep minds active and encourages meaningful social interactions, so important for older adults who have memory issues.
Word and puzzle games, card games and weekly pet therapy visits.
Residents in both buildings may participate in lectures, discussion groups, music and art appreciation programs, creative arts, the non-accredited JCHC University seminars and the Lifelong Learning program.
The Lester Senior Housing Community recently expanded its “Friends & Neighbors” day program to area residents with memory disorders. It includes special activities and a kosher lunch in the new Memory Care Suite in the Weston Assisted Living Residence. It is available to older adults who are living at home and are seeking opportunities for activities and socializing. Flexible, short-term respite stays are also available for seniors whose caregivers or family will be away, or for those who wish to sample the Lester lifestyle for anywhere from 10 days to two months.
The Lester Senior Housing Community is located at 903-905 Route 10 East on the Alex Aidekman Family Jewish Community Campus and is owned and managed by the Jewish Community Housing Corporation of Metropolitan New Jersey (JCHC).
