Moriah Lower School Marks November 29

This past Wednesday, November 29, was the 70th anniversary of the United Nations vote that led to the creation of the modern State of Israel. Fourth and fifth grade students participated in a special activity to help them understand the historical background and significance of this date. The shlichot set up a model UN, featuring stations representing various countries that voted for or against the creation of a Jewish state. Students participated in a mock vote, choosing the stance that they thought best represented their assigned countries’ policies towards Israel. After tallying their votes, students were shown a video of the real vote as it took place 70 years ago. Watching footage of the celebrations that ensued throughout the world as news of the vote spread, the children got a sense of the emotions that were felt on that day and walked away with a deeper appreciation for the miracle of Medinat Yisrael.
