Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Noah Gutlove

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize thirteen-year-old Noah Gutlove as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey seventh grader lives and breathes sports. Noah’s trophy case already boasts two TABC Jr. Hockey championships, a CMEK championship MVP and a Sportstar Academy Championship. This season, Noah is putting up tremendous defensive and rebounding numbers as the RYNJ Jaguar’s stretch four. Noah celebrated his bo bayom this past monday, by playing lockdown defense and scoring the Jaguars first and last points en-route to a dramatic 49-43 victory over Moriah. Noah’s coach at RYNJ told the JLNJ, “Noah is a pleasure to coach. He always has a smile on his face and is willing to get his hands dirty tracking down a rebound or loose ball. He never shies away from a defensive assignment and usually gets the responsibility of guarding the other team’s best player.”

Noah, congrats on your upcoming Bar Mitzvah and a terrific season so far. I know you have many positive role models in your life, but if you had to select one person, who is your role model and why?

My mom. She has taught me that with hard work and determination, there is nothing that cannot be accomplished.

What is your favorite sport?

I love all sports, but if I had to select one I would choose basketball.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment, so far?

Winning MVP at CMEK camp in fifth grade and earning the nickname Anthony Davis “Fear the Brow.”

Who is your favorite professional athlete and why?

Giannis Antetokounmpo—every offseason he works very hard and plays better each season.

What is your pregame routine?

I get my whole team around me and initiate the team’s pregame pump up, “What time is it?”

What is your earliest sport memory?

Going to Citifield for a Mets vs. Twins game when I was 5 years old.

What is your funniest sports memory?

Last year, when RYNJ was playing MDS, I got knocked to the floor and the ball came to me. I knew I couldn’t stand up with the ball, so I shot lying down; it wasn’t even close:)

What is your favorite sports memory?

Going to a Mets playoff game, during their run to the World Series in 2015. Noah Syndergaard was on the mound for the Mets, everyone was chanting my name (Noah! Noah!) so I stood up as if I was getting a standing ovation.

Favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

Hanging with friends; Playing NBA 2K.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Getting to share this honor with my coaches and teammates. Shout out to the RYNJ Jaguars, my Dad and ACE.

The Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week will receive a $15 gift certificate to Teaneck Doghouse. Please send nominees for an upcoming Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
