Chai Homecare, a newly founded senior care company, is providing an innovative approach to senior living. Founded by Corey Hamel, a Washington Heights resident and a paramedic with over 12 years of experience in emergency medical services, Chai Homecare is a remote senior care community that ensures regular check-ins of seniors, offers peace of mind for family members, and fosters a sense of connection without being intrusive. Hamel knows firsthand how many seniors live alone and how difficult it can be for families to stay updated on their loved ones’ well being.
“That experience [as a paramedic] motivated me to create Chai Homecare—a proactive, affordable solution that keeps families connected and informed without adding stress to the senior. My background in emergency medicine gives me an understanding of what’s needed to make senior care more effective, responsive, and compassionate. This service is designed to bridge the gap between independence and full-time caregiving, ensuring seniors have support without losing autonomy. We’re committed to making this stage of life easier not just for the seniors but for the families,” Hamel said.
Chai Homecare’s primary focus is on Jewish seniors. However, the service is open to anyone, regardless of religious background.
The company is built around three core services. The first service is a daily wellness AI check-in phone call at a time chosen by the family. The goal of the call is to monitor the senior’s well-being and detect any concerns. The call, in the preferred language of the senior, will be tailored to accommodate the senior and their family’s needs.
“Whether you need reminders about upcoming Jewish holidays, want to hear what the weekly parsha is, want a companion for your loved one or assistance with medication management, we can provide a solution. Our goal is to ensure that your loved one receives the right level of support, in a way that fits their lifestyle and your family’s needs,” Hamel said.
Following the call, the family will be notified about the senior’s well-being and any other useful information that was learned and analyzed during the call, such as if the senior is low on a staple household item or is feeling more discomfort due to a recent fall. The family can also opt to have these messages sent directly to the senior’s caregiver.
The second service provides a more personal touch with a weekly live check-in call from a dedicated team member of Chai Homecare, in addition to the daily check-in call. The live check-ins are more natural conversations that touch on a variety of different topics with the focus on the senior’s overall well-being. The family can also tailor these check-in calls to ensure the Chai Homecare team member is asking questions pertinent to the senior’s needs.
The third service Chai Homecare provides is an online community where seniors and their families can stay informed, share resources and connect with others facing similar challenges. A newsletter is sent to all the seniors about upcoming events and simchas. The community website provides space for seniors to comment on any upcoming events, simchas or interesting items posted and to virtually meet other seniors.
Chai Homecare aims to be an affordable service. Before committing to purchasing this service, one can schedule a 15-minute consultation at www.chaihomecare.com to see if this approach is a right fit for one’s family member. The daily check-in calls are only $2.50 per day, billed monthly, and the online community is free.
