Tradition meets innovation! The fourth and fifth grade boys of the JEC Lower School literally re-engineered the game of dreidel. Steven Rosen, an engineer and JEC parent, came in to kick off this most recent STEAM challenge: Design the longest-spinning dreidel. The boys considered factors such as weight and symmetry of design as they generated ideas, built their prototypes and refined their models. The winning dreidel, made of materials such as a plastic lid and pennies, spun for 42 seconds! The boys worked together to create their designs and are already looking forward to their next STEAM activity.
