The Dor L’Dor Group at Congregation Ahavath Torah. 240 Broad Avenue, Englewood, is pleased to announce their annual pre-Purim Lunch and Learn program will take place at the synagogue on Monday, March 10 at noon.
The guest speaker for the program will be Englewood resident Dr. Monique (Nicky) Katz, who will speak on “Purim, Women and Megillah.” Katz, former director of radiology at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and professor of clinical radiology at Columbia University, has authored innumerable publications and has lectured extensively. Concurrently with her professional career, Dr. Katz has studied Torah extensively and applied her analytical skills to these studies.
A life-long learner, Monique Katz exemplifies the melding and pursuit of Torah UMadda. She has graciously shared her knowledge by leading Shabbat learning classes for women in Englewood. She and her late husband, Mordecai Katz, used their philanthropy to further the expansion of Torah UMadda both here and in Israel. They endowed Yeshiva University with the Katz School of Science and Health and the Katz School of Graduate and Professional Studies. In addition, they funded the Katz Academic Building at the Frisch school, the Katz Building at Bar Ilan University, and other institutions. The Katz family is indefatigable in promoting opportunities for others to be imbued with Jewish knowledge and values, and the transmission of those qualities to future generations.
The program begins with a selection of music by violinist Stephanie Kurtzman, a performer and teacher of classical and Jewish music. She has been a soloist with the Houston Symphony Orchestra and has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Jones Hall and Merkin Hall.
A delicious buffet lunch will be served.
Cost is $20 per person with reservation and payment by March 5; $25 after that date.
