Ramaz students in grades 10 and 11 were privileged to hear from prominent pro-Israel activist Rawan Osman. Osman was born in Damascus, Syria, and grew up in Lebanon. She spoke about how the intense propaganda she was exposed to growing up made her hate and fear Jews. Antisemitism was so ingrained in her that when she moved to Strasbourg, France, and saw a Jew for the first time, she panicked. It was then, while living in the Jewish quarter, that she had to confront her antisemitism. Osman decided to study Jewish studies and Modern Hebrew and fell in love with Judaism. She is in the process of converting and has visited Israel many times. Today, Osman is a staunch Zionist and activist against antisemitism.
