JKHA Second graders participated in a nation-wide service-learning activity called Blankets of Hope. Blankets of Hope is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization partnering with schools to deliver blankets and handwritten letters of encouragement to people experiencing homelessness across the nation. The students were each trained to become a “Superhero of Kindness” and participated in a 30-minute “Kindness Workshop” where they performed an empathy exercise for those experiencing homelessness, attached a handwritten letter of encouragement to a blanket and learned a brief loving-kindness meditation. The students’ completed “Blankets of Hope” were donated to a local homeless shelter called Market Street Mission in Morristown.
