This week, Moriah eighth graders began their interviews with Holocaust survivors for their “Names, Not Numbers” documentary. Throughout the year, the eighth graders have been studying the entire film-making process, from interview techniques to lighting and sound. The students finally got to put their skills to work. As survivors pulled up to the building, groups of students met them at their cars and walked them to the library. Students made their guests feel comfortable as they proceeded to catalog the survivors’ stories from WWII. The eighth graders then finished their sessions by participating in a one-on-one reflection period with their teacher and English Department Head Rachael Schwartz.
The students continue to show an incredible level of professionalism as they engage with the survivor population and document their difficult stories.
