(Courtesy of TABC Sports) The TABC JV Hockey team faced their neighbors, the Frisch Cougars, in Paramus, New Jersey, on Thursday evening, February 28 with a spot in the championship game on the line. The Cougars had defeated the Storm in both of their regular-season matchups and were determined to make it three for three. However, TABC had a key asset who was unavailable in those first two games: a healthy Adin Katler ’27, who was given the start by Coaches Tzvika Poleyeff ’12 and Yosef Robin ’13 in this must-win, do-or-die affair. Katler wasted no time making an impact, scoring less than 20 seconds into the game in just his second-ever game for the Storm after a season-long injury battle. Soon after, TABC earned a power play, and sophomore Dovid Ratzersdorfer’s shot trickled past the Frisch goaltender, who appeared rattled early on. The goal forced a stunned Frisch team to call an early timeout. Frisch struggled throughout the evening to find ways past TABC goalie Sol Sandel ’27, with Sandel stopping every shot he faced in the first period. In the second period, TABC extended their lead, turning this semifinal into a surprising blowout. Marty Teitelbaum ’27 scored two goals, one off a fortunate bounce off the wall and the Frisch goaltender’s back, and another on a beautiful wrister as he was just about to lose his balance. Teitelbaum proved to be a constant nuisance for the Cougars throughout the night. Frisch managed to get one goal back off a power-play opportunity, but by then, it was too little too late. TABC secured the victory with a 4-1 final score and now advances to the championship game, where they will face the DRS Wildcats on Sunday, March 9, at North Shore. This marks an unexpected Cinderella run for the Storm, who had just barely eked their way into the playoffs.
