Gan Aliya Learns About Tzedaka

The kinderlach at Gan Aliyah were so excited to welcome a special guest during circle time—Rabbi Levine from the Jewish Center. Rabbi Levine taught them all about the mitzvah of tzedaka and shared a meaningful story about a man named Yossele. People thought Yossele never gave money to those in need, but after he passed away, they discovered that he had been a generous giver all along—donating in secret so that others would not feel embarrassed. Rabbi Levine explained that this is the true essence of tzedaka, and just like Yossele was a tzadik, we can all be tzadikim by giving to others.

Rabbi Levine also introduced the concept of maaser—giving 10% of what we have to those in need. In this spirit, all of the Gan Aliya tzedaka was given to Rabbi Levine to distribute to those who need it most.

This meaningful discussion is just the beginning of a larger conversation about tzedaka as Jewish people prepare for Purim and the mitzva of Matanos L’Evyonim—giving to those in need on this special day.  Gan Aliya looks forward to continuing to learn and grow together in the spirit of giving and kindness!
