Stores are just starting to get in their spring fashions. The muted colors of winter are fading away as bright, almost neon, colors and elegant pastels take their place. Black and white is always popular, with new styles making a statement for spring. Denim continues to be a sought-after look for dresses, skirts and jackets.
Flair, at Brookhaven Mall in Passaic, is a go-to destination for women’s and teens’ upscale clothing, from casual but elegant everyday wear to simcha dresses. Nayomi Muschel, store manager, showed me the latest arrivals for the new season.

Florals and abstract designs are still the rage. Dresses are long and flowing, either maxi or tea length, between the knee and ankle. They’re easy to wear and comfortable. Ditch the tights and enjoy more freedom of movement. The rainbow of colors is on display, with lots of blue, green, pink and even yellow. I saw lots of three-quarter-length sleeves—my favorite. Long sleeves can feel constraining in warmer weather.
Fabrics can be cool cotton, crisp linen or smooth and satiny. Jumpers are also making a comeback. A jumper is a sleeveless dress that can be refreshed with a different layer. Put a shirt underneath or wear a cardigan on top. Flair has jumpers with matching tops, or pair one with a cardigan in an array of coordinating colors.

Denim is making an appearance in jumpers, dresses and skirts. The styles range from simple A-line to multi-panel flowing looks. Denim isn’t just blue anymore. Black, white, khaki and olive denim are in. The slip dress or skirt is a dressier look that is still popular and getting more varied.
The shiny satin fabric, in vibrant color or basic black, looks and feels great. Lace is also back for a classic look that’s elegant and understated. Lace styles are showing up in all hues from typical black or white, to beige and other colors.
The news for tops this spring is in the new details. Collars, buttons and zippers add some interest to solids and prints. Blouses, many with bows in front, are making a comeback. Flair has them in solids, stripes and patterns. Wear alone or let the bow peak out from under a jumper or a cardigan. Crop cardigans are a spring staple. Flair has sets of skirts and jumpers with cardigans, or mix and match.

The styles for women and teens are similar. Teens are also wearing long skirts and dresses with florals or patterns. And denim. Muschel notes that some teens want to feel grown up by wearing women’s styles, and women want to feel young by wearing teen clothing. Whatever fits and makes you happy!
