It’s the month of Adar and it’s time,
To have a little fun, it’s really fine!
We Jews have been through plenty of sorrow,
Let’s have a laugh as we build for tomorrow.
Share a joke, it opens our minds,
As long as it is sweet and kind.
Abraham and Sarah were filled with laughter,
As Hashem brought them Yitzchak and the Jewish people after.
Like the tambourines Miriam used as a symbol of hope and faith,
Let’s celebrate in Adar to cope with sadness and pain.
The Megillah is a dramatic story,
Of how the Jews were brought to victory and glory!
Esther did the unexpected as the queen,
She spoke to Achashverosh at the scene.
She put the big picture in her view,
And acted selflessly to help every Jew.
Saving our people from tyranny,
Gave Esther a place in our history.
Here we are centuries later in modernity,
Jews are known for a lot, including comedy!
Perhaps it’s as an act of defiance,
We create fun and laughter for reliance!
May this Purim give you healing power,
Make some jokes at your seuda hour!
