Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Purim at WTA was an unforgettable celebration this year. Thanks to the creativity and hard work of our middle schoolers and teachers, the entire school was transformed into a vibrant kingdom of Shushan, leaving our younger students in awe.

Each morning in the week leading up to the chag, Purim music filled the halls, setting the stage for spontaneous dance parties. The fun started with Topsy Turvy Day, featuring an 8th-grade-run carnival with booths the students created and constructed on their own, including “Kick-Tac-Toe,” “Spray Gun Races,” and “Face Paint.” On School Spirit Day, students and teachers showed their pride with a pep rally, a student-teacher basketball game, trivia games, competitions, and a S-P-I-R-I-T-ed cheer chug performance. Plus, with the help of our Israeli mishlachat teachers, they wrote, directed and performed an Ivrit Purim play for the school.

Dress as a Teacher Day had students hilariously imitating their favorite educators, and Crazy Hat/Hair/Sock Day showcased some of the most creative (and wacky) hairdos we’ve ever seen!

Beyond the fun, WTA shares a sense of pride for showcasing its commitment to Purim’s important mitzvot. The middle school celebrated a siyum on Masechet Megillah, showing their dedication to Torah study, and packed goody bags for sick children who needed to be in the hospital over chag. WTA’s Vaad Horim generously sponsored mishloach manot for the whole school, and students packed and distributed these gifts to their friends, allowing them to experience the joy of giving firsthand. As a sweet touch, students also baked Hamantashen in their classes to include in the packages.

Middle school students, rabbis, and morim took center stage on Purim day, layning Megillah for the whole school community, and several female middle school students, morot and school moms layned Megillah in a special women’s reading. Purim at WTA was a perfect blend of fun, tradition and community spirit!
