This Tu B’Shevat, lower school students enjoyed a multi-sensory experience of the land of Israel, as they took part in the shlichot’s “Shuk Machane Yehuda.” Surrounded by virtual sights and sounds of the real shuk, students worked together to find and purchase the items specified on their Hebrew shopping lists, budgeting their “shekel” coins and bills and negotiating in Hebrew with fifth grade “vendors.” Once all of the groceries were purchased, the children returned to their classrooms where they made brachot with their teachers and enjoyed their tasty treats. The children had a great time as they learned about the fruits of Eretz Yisrael, engaged in Hebrew language and gained a deeper love and appreciation for the land of Israel.
