Yaakov Blau’s letter, “Germany Should Worry Us” (March 27, 2025), demonstrates that he has accepted the inaccurate media characterization of AfD as a “far right party.” There are far-right antisemites within the party, but AfD tried to ban BDS in Germany and after Oct. 7 they said “Israel and the Jewish people can count on our full solidarity.” Hardly Nazi-like.

Germany is also many years from having an army that could effectively defend its own borders, let alone go on the offensive. Given repeated Islamist attacks in Germany I can understand why support for AfD increased. In my opinion, the bigger worry is that as Arab populations dramatically increase in Europe, their governments will turn from simply withholding support for Israel to becoming outright hostile.
