NORPAC Hosts Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) in Englewood

(Courtesy of NORPAC) On Thursday afternoon, Dr. Roslyn and Leon Kozak hosted a NORPAC pro-Israel event for Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) at their home in Englewood.

Bill Nelson was a captain in the United States Army, serving in the reserves from 1965 to 1971. Nelson’s public service career began with his election to the Florida State Legislature in 1972. He then served six terms in the U.S. Congress representing Orlando and the Space Coast. In January 1986, Nelson spent six days orbiting Earth as a payload specialist aboard space shuttle Columbia. He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2000.

At the event, Senator Nelson was adamant about ensuring full funding for Israel’s anti-missile systems. As a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, he has reviewed legislation related to Iron Dome, Arrow and David’s Sling joint US-Israel manufacturing operations and funding.

As ranking member of the cybersecurity subcommittee, he also discussed possibly expanding funding to work with Israeli tech companies that can help the U.S. better protect itself from foreign interference, an issue that continues to come up in the American dialogue today.

Bill Nelson is currently serving his third term in the U.S. Senate and will be running for re-election in 2018.
