After two snow storms delayed the highly anticipated matchup of the Jr league championship, the game was finally able to be played the Monday before Pesach. The first place Hurricanes looked to become the first team to “run the table” in over five years and complete the undefeated season. The Hurricanes got to the championship game behind strong goaltending and defense, only allowing one goal in the playoffs, and timely scoring. They were matched up with the upset-minded Wildcats who got to the championship game after defeating the two seed in a come from behind victory in the semifinals.
The game started out back and forth, with the Wildcats controlling the tempo of the game forcing the regular season Akiva Rotenberg MVP to make a few magnificent saves. Eventually, the Hurricanes put together a strong shift midway through the first period and beat the Wildcats goalie Eyal Lemberger top shelf to take a 1-0 lead. The Hurricanes would add another goal before the period ended and never looked back.
The Wildcats tried to force the action and had Eiden Rauzman start to carry the puck into the offensive zone. The Hurricanes defense was up to the task and shut down any chance for the Wildcats to come back.
The game ended with the Hurricanes taking home the trophy with an 8-1 win. Alex Pomerantz took home playoff MVP with his effective play throughout the entire playoffs. Eitan Adler added a hat-trick in the championship game, and helped contribute to the impressive season the hurricanes had. Both teams were given trophies and Haggadot to properly prepare for the upcoming chag. We want to thank our anonymous donor for the Haggadot and making our trophy ceremony special. The 2018 fall registration will open up in late May, with emails and postings to come in the next couple of months. There will be a summer league for boys entering 2-5 grade, who will be home for the summer. The season will focus on practices and clinics to go along with a regular and playoff season.
