What makes for a truly outstanding candy? Is it the texture? The flavor? And how does a candymaker adjust those factors? The art of candy-making is built on science, and JEC eighth grade students are learning about solutions in their quest to create sensational candies. The boys develop their ideas, and apply concepts such as solute, solvent, saturation, super-saturation and the boiling point as they continue through the design process. The original candies—taffies, chocolates and hard candies—will be evaluated by the most discerning audience: the middle school students! The winning confection will be the next item for sale from the middle school student council’s snack locker. Stop by for a sample!
