Once again, area high school students will be participating in the High School Spring Ice Hockey League at Floyd Hall Arena in Montclair. This year 45 high school students from SAR, TABC, Frisch and Kushner will be playing on the Hurricanes and Cougar Nation teams.
Both teams got off to a good start with wins this past Sunday. First, Cougar Nation squared off against a fast and talented JR. B Elite team. Jake Fromen led the way with a hat trick and Jake Weissman, Jack Margolius and Rafi Kigner also scored. Adam Freilich and Jakey Zackai had two assists apiece and Isaac Markovitz, Ethan Marom, Max Nussbaum, Judah Volodarsky and Mikey Nadritch also assisted on goals en route to a 6-4 win.
Right after the Zamboni did its thing, the Hurricanes took the ice against a very physical Pascack Valley team and came away with a convincing 7-2 win. Both Shlomo Gellman and Avinoam Wizman had two goals and an assist. Avraham Gellman had two assists. Colin Mauer also scored two goals and Elli Spinowitz scored a goal along with one assist. Eli Schiff and Joshua Lando had two assists, while Benjamin Lando, Eli Schiff, Chaim Cohen and Eli Blumenfeld had assists.
After a joint practice Thursday evening, both teams are back at it on Sunday as the Hurricanes take on the Jokers and Cougar Nation will play Paramus.
