Ma’ayanot Softball Team Starts Season With Two Wins

The defending MYHSAL girls softball champions are back at it. After waiting all winter to start defending their title, the Rapids started off their season with a rematch of last year’s championship game—a home game against SAR. With freshman Ariella Vogel on the mound, the Rapids defense, once again, proved to be one of the deciding factors in the win. Great catches, by outfielder senior Kate Weinberg and shortstop junior Mia Nissel, helped ensure the SAR Sting were held to one run through six innings. With timely hitting by sophomore Michal Meisels and senior Tali Antosofsky, the Rapids took the lead and won the game 6-4.

For their second game, the team travelled to Hillel. Despite the cold wind, both teams started off with strong defensive plays. With Vogel back on the mound, and amazing plays by Meisels and senior catcher Sarah Berman, the Rapids kept the Hillel team from scoring all game long. On the offensive side, senior Rebencca Malech delivered a triple that brought in enough runs for the Rapids to take the lead and never look back. The Rapids improved their record to 2-0 with a 6-0 win. After the game, the team enjoyed having dinner together at the field, before the long bus ride home.
