Yavneh Academy finished in first and second place, as well as third, fifth, seventh and 10th places, out of 544 middle school teams competing in the 2018 Spring Stock Market Games in the Northern New Jersey Division. The first place team, all sixth graders, led by Noah Abrahams, Aidan Cohnen and Moshe Nadritch also finished in second place out of 2,859 teams in the state. The teams included high schools and elementary schools. The second place middle school team had Mason Bernheim, Avery Greenblatt and Jared Zimbalist as their investors. Abrahams, Cohnen and Nadritch earned over $13,000 in the three months of competition. The sixth grade teams were supervised by Don Cutler.
This was the second win this year for Yavneh who, under the guidance of Howard Goldberg, led one of his teams to the 2017 fall competition championship. Yavneh strives to bring the real world into its learning program. All three middle schools grades are involved. Children worked through lunch and recess after receiving initial instruction in their math classes.
The Stock Market Game is operated by the SIFMA Foundation and provides reading and learning materials on all areas of investing. Better than 500 corporations provide the financing for this online competition, allowing all schools to participate without incurring any expense.
