MTA senior Joseph Friedman of Highland Park has been selected as a winner of the National Merit Scholarship. Approximately 1.6 million students nationwide entered this year’s National Merit Scholarship Program and only 16,000 of those students were selected as semifinalists. Those selected as semifinalists had the opportunity to advance and become finalists by fulfilling specific requirements, including the completion of a detailed scholarship application as well demonstrating an overall record of high academic performance. Out of the 15,000 students who were chosen as finalists, only 2,500 students, including Joseph, were chosen as National Merit Scholarship winners. Friedman is the recipient of a Corporate-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship, sponsored by the Marsh & McLennan Companies.
